New Arrest Made In January Stabbing

Narrative:
On Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Gang Unit arrested Rutilio Huerta for a gang related Attempted Murder that occurred in the City of Ojai on New Years Eve. Huerta was arrested at his residence without incident.
On the morning of January 1, 2009, at about 0145 hours, 28 year old Joshua Powers was walking home from a party in the 200 Block of Waite Street. Powers was confronted by individuals who were attending a nearby party. Powers was attacked and stabbed 17 times. The suspects fled, leaving Powers lying unconscious in the street. A short time later, an anonymous person called emergency personnel reporting that Powers was lying in the street. Powers was transported to Ojai Hospital where he nearly succumbed to his injuries. Powers was in the hospital for several days before being released.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Gang Unit conducted a 5-month investigation identifying Ojai gang member Fidel Duran as the person who stabbed Powers. Duran was arrested in June for Attempted Murder and Street Terrorism and booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, Ventura. Sheriff’s Gang investigators also identified Rutilio Huerta as being one of the aggressors and believe that he also battered the victim during the attack. Huerta was booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on Wednesday for Attempted Murder and Street Terrorism and remains in custody on $1,000,000.00 bail. Fidel Duran has been in custody since his arrest in June and is being held on $645,000.00 bail awaiting trial.

Nice job Sheriff’s Unit! It would be great if you could install surveillance cameras in downtown Ojai to help keep shoppers and tourists safe from gang kids.

The downtown cam is a nice touch for the folks who may be looking to come visit Ojai, but there should be a few mounted on the back of the Fast Gas building pointing up Waite and Drown, and there should be some pointing down Bald, Fox and lower Fulton Streets to be considered anti-crime tools.

Carefully chosen locations for cams in Ojai would reduce crime to 0%. The money for all costs would be easily raised by local residents. The only question is, why is this not happening? Gang members even wear their ridiculous “uniforms.” It would make stopping crime as easy as pie. In fact, there’s a case to be made for anyone who is a victim of a crime to be able to sue the county for negligence for not installing them.

Within 10 years, aside from basic service work (gardening, policing etc.) there won’t be any blue collar jobs left in California. The state is destined to become a playground solely for the educated, successful, wealthy and literate. Unemployed blue collar workers would be wise to get out while they still can and move to states that still have some semblance of a manufacturing base. The only jobs coming back in California will be for those with Ivy League degrees, MBA’s and expertise in computer technology, law and science.
It’s going to be a bumpy and painful process of realization for those waiting for their auto dealer job to coming back. Within the next decade, all cars in California will be microprocessor based electric vehicles. The real estate in Washington State and Oregon is well priced. If you’re down on your luck, not making mortgage payments and burning through credit cards, it’s not going to get better. Think seriously about getting out before you foreclose and lose it all.

We don’t need cameras we need the police to do their job.
The east end was spray painted ALL OVER and it must have taken hours to hit all those buildings in the middle of the night. Where was the night patrol? Having sex? Watching TV? Talking on their cell phones? What?
Also did anyone notice THE only building not tagged was the gas station Drown/150? How did they acquire immunity?
