Gang Member Gets Eight Years

with 38 comments

Villalpando - BookingSHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE
Officer preparing release: Sgt. Bill Schierman
Narrative:
Ventura Avenue gang member Jimmy Villalpando was sentenced to eight years in state prison today for shooting a rival gang member in 2007.

On 2-23-2007, Ojai patrol deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 300 block of N. Drown Avenue, Ojai.  When they arrived, they found victim Hugo Guerra suffering from two gunshot wounds to the chest. Guerra told deputies that he was parking his car in front of his house when a car pulled up alongside him.  One of the occupants yelled out a gang slogan then shot him.  Guerra was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center where he eventually recovered from his wounds.

The suspect in the shooting was quickly identified as Jimmy Villalpando.  He was located several hours later in the area of Oak View and arrested.

On 2-27-2007, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office filed one count of shooting at an inhabited vehicle against Villalpando.  On 2-28-2007, Villalpando was released on 90,000 dollar bail.  On 3-1-2007, Villalpando failed to appear in court and a 250,000 dollar warrant was issued for his arrest.

Shortly after Villalpando failed to appear in court, the Sheriff’s Gang Unit attempted to locate him.  Gang investigators tracked him to an area near El Paso, Texas and developed information that he crossed the border into Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.  Gang investigators believe he remained in Mexico until September of 2009.

On 9-23-2009, the Sheriff’s Department received a tip that Villalpando had returned from Mexico and was staying at his parent’s house in the 200 block of Burnham Rd., Oak View.  Sheriff’s gang investigators and Ojai patrol deputies went to the house and located Villalpando hiding in the attic.  He was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail.

On 12-22-2009, Villalpando pled guilty to one count of assault with a firearm.  On 2-4-2010, he was sentenced to 8 years in state prison.

  1. Doesn’t make much sense to me. One gang member gets sentenced to nine years in prison for attempted murder; another is sentenced to eight years in prison for assault with a firearm.

  5. Please, Anonymous, rethink your logic. You would be rewarding someone for being a poor shot.

The great part about these gangstas is that they are fighting over “territory” yet are all renters.

  7. The point I was trying to make is that the sentences should be roughly the same. 27 years for all of them.

  10. I have no compassion for the scumbags that are gang members. They never enhance the community, they only feed off of it like leeches and hide behind some sort of warped credo of the gang being family, or some such BS! Gangs are the absolute cancer for a community like the Ojai Valley. They will take over while the city sleeps and, pretty soon, there will be too many of them to do battle with. I remember about 30 years ago, while walking back from Nordhoff, seeing my very first piece of graffiti on the wall of the Ojai Playhouse. I was shocked that someone would do that in OUR town. Open your eyes and deal harshly with these vermin. Just look at Ventura, Oxnard, Santa Paula etc. and realize that a war is going on between the community and the low life’s who are just waiting for their numbers to be strong enough to do some REAL damage. I predict that within 10-15 years, we will be seeing a lot of homes with bars on the windows and businesses with the roll-up steel “garage door” covering the entire front window/door area of the stores. Sounds extreme, just look at Ventura, Oxnard, Santa Paula etc. Remember when they were nice places to live? Now, the only “nice” places to live in those cities are behind security gates in “gated communities”. Send a message to these street punks that they will not be tolorated in Ojai. Make Ojai as uncomfortable a place for them to live as they will soon make it for the rest of us. Nothing racial intended here, it’s just that if you are a thug/gangsta/punk/vato/essey/homey/holmes/hood etc. you are not wanted in Ojai. Go somewhere else where you can be the virus that you are and kill yourselves off. Leave us out of it!

  17. One more dirt-bag put away for a few years. One more small victory. But as as most of us know, the cancer is still present…albeit lying a little lower right now.

Now’s the time to encourage a far more proactive stance by our city council, our law enforcement and our community. We know who these sub-human parasites are, where they congregate, and even where they live.

Get involved and make their existence here very, very uncomfortable.

  20. I think if posters were made of the victims of these mentaly disturbed individuals, and the pictures of the disturbed individuals and posted them with captions throughout the valley, how would the parents and relitives of these members of the Ojai School Lunches respond? Shame and exposure is the best weapon. Maybe they will finally take matters in their own hands to solve the situation at home or turn their own offspring into the authorities to get some needed Psyc help. Also another issue to consider is who rent, hires, and aid in allowing this problem to exsist in the Ojai valley. Some of you may remember the brother in law of one of the car burglary ring that got arrested and reported on the 12/30/09 OVN, front page, second from the right. About 4 years ago he stabbed some kid and was convicted. He got off on good behavior and the day he got out he and his fellow bangers celibrated on Encinal Ave taking bong hits in public with his 2 1/2 nephew standing next to him.I f you really wish to solve the problem, don’t hide, kick over every rock and expose the critters to the light, and don’t cover your eyes so you pretend it isn’t there. Also press law enforcement to take action. Which they will due little. Why? Becuase they get alot of money in Federal grants for gang related problems. So in reality it is like a dealer and addict. They need gangs so they can get the money. Very few people know this fact, and by me exposing it I don’t think the OVN will post this comment. If so, then I will give them thumbs up for it.I was one of the original members of the Department of Homeland Security, and we know how bad this problem really is. Expose,Make public, don’t hide your head in the sand, and walk hand in hand saying NO MORE! Good luck folks it’s your life and your childerens lives at risk in the expanding world of these TERROIST!!!

  21. Ojai was taken from the Chumash Indians by the Government and became a part of a Mexican land grant to Fernando Tico who made it a cattle ranch in the late 1830′s.
Tico sold the valley to oil prospectors (who had no luck) and sold it again.
In the 1870′s a real estate developer named Royce Gaylord Surdam (from New York) who is considered the founder of the town, Nordohff, named after a German author, Charles Nordohff(from Germany). ‘Wrote-The Communistic Societies in the United States’.
During WW I Americans started an anti-German trend and started changing all the German sounding names in the United States and Nordhoff was renamed Ojai in 1917.
A fire took most off the rustic western style Ojai in 1917 and Edward D. Libby (from Massachusetts), helped design, finance and build the Ojai we know.
The Spanish style arcade, the Italian campanile mimicking the bell tower in Havana and the Italian pergola at Libby park.
To thank Mr. Libby the town suggested on honoring him each year but the humble man said not to call it Libby Day but to instead call it Ojai Day.

    whatever

  22. And O tay is correct about the police. A cop friend told me the same thing. He said if I tell anyone he would deny it, but he got transferred so whatever.
He said they “Need crime in Ojai” or they won’t have the “easy job” up here, or the training grounds for “young stupid rookies”. (His words)
He told me “not to look so surprised” it’s “job security” and all business do it.
It’s like the IRS generating revenue at any cost to the people, being the ones who are entrusted to govern.
If you research crime statistics on the net it says Ojai only has 1 full time officer, huh??? then who are the thugs out there harassing everyone? They really don’t help that often, not that I’m aware of anyway. Anyone have a positive story?…..Please? OVN? Any goods stuff on the cops?

    whatever

    12 Feb 10 at 5:53 pm

  23. That’s right whatever,
Per capita, meanning population, Ojai has more violent crime than L.A. Also Look at all of the blots on the OVN when it comes to probation and DUI/Substance abuse arrest.Tops L.A. per capita by far.If you have a subscription for the OVN just look at the last 5 years of these figures, and ammounts for BAIL! excuse my French but…DUH…Also a full time officer is 35 plus hours a week. That means in any day you can have 10, one day a week, so they as individuals not full. If you really wished to play big brotheer on the cops, the watch the OVN web cam between 6:50 an 8:10 and see how many cars come off Signal. Opps… I gave it away, now they will avoid that route.Actually there are between 8 to 12 cars in the valley in one day.Full time means 35 plus hours a week. But there are 150 plus deputies in all of Ventura county. This is why so many people over the years demanded Ojai having their own PD. Mainly for accountabillity. Yet it is said it would cost too much. Ok Your stabbed or shot son or daughter, how much is that worth? About $163,000 federal grants for gang supression every 3 months.Show me the money Jerry!!! SHOW ME the MONEY!!!!Our lives in respect to violent crime is worth about $11.00 per month, not counting the illegal allien population which is about 12 to 19%. Oh didn’t you realize? Ojai like Santa Barbara are santuary cities, but we are only talking about the law enforcment in this blog..

    O Tay

  24. duh people jimmy is from v.a.g ventura ave gang not osl he shot at an osl member

    ......

    12 Feb 10 at 11:34 pm

  25. The city of Ojai is well served by the Ventura County Sheriffs Office.
Two city cars, two county cars and a watch commander at any given time. In reality the city gets nearly double the protection for what it pays. Factor in the costs of what we would have to pay for major crime investigations, gang supression task force coordination, up-to-date equipment, etc…and the cost of bringing back our own police dept would be very high.
Of course it’s always a good idea to re-visit the issue now and then, but when you crunch the actual numbers it’s pretty tough bill to swallow.

The main problem here has been the environment of liberal bias, entitlement and political correctness (and of course the wole snctuary issue plays into that). Much of the Ojai scum has been able to successfully hide behind that for years, and the policies have hampered the efforts of law enforcement.

Hopefully attitudes will begin to change, and the gloves will come off.

  26. duh person, if osl didn’t exists he wouldn’t have come to Ojai to shoot him. Point is the cops get a lot of grant money, we are inundated with officers in a tiny area and they didn’t prevent the osl kid from getting shot. What the heck is 163,000.00 paying for?
Just give it to the gangs and let them defend themselves.
There are programs like that, gang members go straight. The cops are not smart or quick enough evidently.

    whatever

  27. whatever, if white power n raciest bigots in Ojai didn’t exist osl never would have formed in 1993. What goes around comes around.

  28. A racist and bigoted Ojai? I’ve heard it all now.

Ojai is about as liberal and limp-wristed as it gets. Hell, it’s a damn sanctuary city for Gods sake. We’ve got (deleted) Mexican aliens openly violating our federal laws en-mass on Ojai Ave on a daily basis. No enforcement whatsoever. None!

And for years Mexican criminals have been handled with kit-gloves by law enforcement. Why?….because they’re Mexican!…routinely pulling out the race card when laws against them happen to be enforced.

But you know….most people accross America have increasingly become sick of that pathetic excuse, regardless of the “ethnicity” of the offender.
Little “Pedro” is just as responsible for his behavior as little “Peter”.

The tide is changing whether you like it or not. Even here in liberal ojai.

Oh…and if OSL really felt like they needed to take on some threatening White folks (in 1993 or now)….You know….because Ojai is so terribly bigoted and all…(deleted) Good Luck with that.

  32. Libby bum are you kidding? Homeland security, what a joke! Our (POSING) president is not a legal citizen! His mother was only 18, had him in Kenya (his grandmother was in the delivery room), moved to Hawaii shortly after, married an Indonesian man who legally adopted him, later he moved back to Hawaii but is still a citizen of Indonesia.
USA requires at least one birth parent to be a legal citizen and there are still requirements: they must reside in the USA for 10 years and after the age of 16. That means for him to be a legal citizen she would have had to be at least 21 yrs. That’s even in the States.
Also he was an attorney for a very corrupt organization called Acorn. He is a criminal.
In 1913 Argentina was “the 10Th Wealthiest Nation” per capita, look what happened to them from 1930 into the 2000′s due to ” increasingly burdensome debt, uncertainty over the monetary system, excessive regulations, barriers to free trade, weak rule of law, coupled with corruption and bloated bureaucracy”
Sounds like we are following that path straight to hell with the men and women responsible for running (our should I say ruining) our country. It’s a shame.
The good news is that you can honor your country and protect yourselves legally by dual citizenship and oversea accounts. It’s legal as long as you don’t break your country’s laws regarding claiming income and taxes. It might be wise to move your money out for awhile, at least until the criminals are out of the White house. It was one thing to have Bush there but now we have his White/African/Indonesian/Muslim illegal immigrant (deleted) taking our money while he grinds the organ. They are putting the USA into Third Wold status due to our debts.
I’m all for gaining control of the country but we can’t even manage a tiny little town without a body count.
