ASK THE POLICE: New Ojai Deputies
OVN: Are rookie deputies automatically assigned to the Ojai station?
REPLY: The Ojai Police station gets the same number / percentage of “rookies” as any of our other stations. Due to retirements, transfers, and or normal attrition we periodically get deputies assigned to the Ojai station that have not previously worked in patrol and need to go through the field training process. Keep in mind that Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies work in our custody division for several years prior to being transferred to a patrol station. Our current “rookies” have been sworn peace officers for more then five years and have already experienced challenging situations before their first day on the streets of Ojai.

I don’t been to be overtly snarky, but maybe “anonymous” is the person “D” has been seeing “hanging out in the dark.” Maybe you two need to meet so you know “anonymous” is a neighbor and means no harm (?).
D, one of the problems is the lighting they do provide at the park after the field lights are shut down keeps blinking on and off. I’m not an electritian but I think there might be a short, one light near the Southwest corner just sits there and blinks for awhile and some nights its off completely. Same goes for some of the other lights by the playground. As far as all the gang stuff , I still have yet to be bothered by anybody up there and I roam the dark areas a few times a week (its a good place to see owls and star gaze) but watch out for the humongous spider who attaches his cable to the ground from the large oak tree facing the soccer field, he comes down around dusk and if you walked into his web with your face with him in it, you might just have a heart attack. His abdomen is about the size of a nickel.
If you see something illegal going on why not be a participating citizen and call the police to report what bothers you?
I completely agree with both of you! I live off of park Rd., and walk by Sarazotti at night. There are so many unlit areas in the park and I usually see teens or others just hanging out in the dark.
I more than agree with the above post.
Also…we need much more patrols on Park Road itself. This street is used as a freeway, and vehicles traveling at far greater speeds than the 25 mph speed limit.
This street is very heavily used by not only the people who live on it from Grand to Ojai Ave..but it used almost exclusively by the people who live above Grand Ave.
Please…a little more patrols!!
I would love to see more patrols focused on Sarazotti park. There is all kinds of bad stuff happening in the South East corner. Alot of traffic in and out of the garden gates from the houses to the park, lots of pot smoking, gang talk, drinking, loud abnoxious cussing, its getting bad. Just hang back and watch every now and then, you’ll see what I mean. A couple nights back their where several guys on top of the storage building bangin around, and yelling EFF the police.
