Should we keep the Ojai street cam? Share your thoughts with us please.

with 28 comments

It appears that our Ojai cam is down once again. We will have to get access to the attic of the Ojai Theatre before we can troubleshoot the problem. Other than on 4th of July and Ojai Day, is this a feature that you use/enjoy? Should we continue to fight with this thing to keep it up and running or just take it down? Please leave us your thoughts here on the blog.

  1. As a native from Ojai now living in Western NY state I “check in” on Ojai nearly everyday. It has been such a gift for me to “visit” my hometown. Thank You.

    • Editor’s note: The street cam can be found on the upper right corner of the front page at www.ojaivalleynews.com. You should be able to access it just fine on your tablet.

  2. Please keep it! The year before we moved to Ojai (2011) I watched it as a constant comfort. As someone else said, it was like being able to see into our future. Once had people go down and wave so that we could see them in Ojai – waving and smiling. It is wonderful promotion and presence in the world for Ojai!

  3. I hope that this cam stays in place and that it can be fixed. My daughter and her family live there and I look at this camera a few times a day when I sit down to my computer. I makes me feel closer to them. Ojai is such a beautiful place- I hope one day to be able to live there too. Please take the effort to fix this window into this magical community. thanks.

  4. Please please keep it!! I had to move away from my wonderful ojai last year to help my elderly father in Georgia…when ojai family is out bike riding they come thru the crosswalk and my granddaughter waves to me! Really helps with homesickness!…please keep it fixed and operating as I’m sure there are many more like me!

  5. Please keep it! I moved away and enjoy being able to visit via webcam. It is something that makes me smile when I’d like to be there and can’t be.

  6. Its not a feature I use very much and up until you wrote that the cam doesn’t record only play in real time, I think it might just be a waste of time. If you could make it record it would be a valuable tool!

  7. I can’t believe this is a topic up for discussion! It would be a huge mistake to take it down. I know a lot of people who have moved away and when they get homesick they get to go look at Ojai Especially the 4th of July parade. LEAVE IT THERE!!!!!!!!

  8. I live in NY and watch the live cam almost everyday. I enjoy the sunrise/sunsets on the mountains and the music from Libby Park and sometimes the local pub not to mention the Bell Tower which rings at 3 hours + 1 minute earlier than NY time. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a crow on the camera and the sound went out so I think he may be the culprit to your problem.

  9. The cam is what caught the Post Office arsonist. Without it, he could still be roaming the streets of Ojai.
Why is this even a topic for discussion?
Editor’s note: The Ojai Valley News street cam was not involved in the search for the arsonist. It only broadcasts in real-time, it does not record.

    • true, BUT if someone just happened to be viewing the cam at the time of the incident, they would have seen something that may have aided in the search!

  10. Yes. I think it should be kept. I work in Ventura and live in the valley. It is nice to see what is going on up there when I am not around. Weather, fires, etc. Hopefully, we can keep it running.

  11. Never give up! in your statement you use the words “fight” and “just take it down”. I am now staying in Ventura but lived in Ojai 20+ years. I find myself driving up for a Rubens Burrito and or a walk in Libby park, when I can’t, I watch down town “live”. Outside video is not rocket science, get someone who knows what they are doin, fix it right, the first time.
